The member spoke about the initiatives towards achieving the SDGs, which elementary school students learn on a daily basis, while engaging activities of UN Habitat, the co-host of the 12th and 13th APCS.
Following the lectures on UN Habitat activities, the staff informed them that the APCS was launched by Fukuoka City, issues closely involves our daily lives are discussed and the next APCS is scheduled to be taken place in Kagoshima City next year.
The lectures included a series of quizzes, and in every school, the attendees proactively raise their hands, and tried their best to respond in their own words.
During the Q&A session, many questions such as “What can the elementary kids, do to help achieve the SDGs?”, “How was Kagoshima City chosen for the next APCS?” and “What else do they need to do to go overseas besides learning English?” were asked.
Although it was regrettable that all questions were not answered due to time constraints, it was a huge learning experience for the APCS members in charge, as they were able to directly interact the straightforward thoughts of the children.
Lastly, we sincerely would like to appreciate all of the students and the teachers from the six elementary schools (Chikushigaoka, Nishijin, Yanaga, Wakahisa, Maizuru and Okusu – by date of implementation) that applied for this guest teacher programme for their cooperation.
